Layout: Frontierland

Note:  No papers were harmed (burnt) in the making of this layout!

Introducing...AJ.

This is one of my favorite moments from our recent trip over seas.  The gorgeous Prima (Craftsman collection) journal card tucked in behind the photo tells the tale of stumbling on the this Canon In the Disneyland Theme park.  I noted how AJ always wants me to pose and he is forever taking my picture...sigh. But this time I got him in on the action and boy did I get some great shots.

The tickets stubs reflect the date (hidden at the back), the Who (AJ), What (Defending Disney), Where ( Frontierland) , and then the third one is filled in to say Disneyland, Jan 2013.  The banner has Frontierland spelt out in stickers, AJ tells me the title almost looks like a Fort!

Tis a little bit strange..I have used chipboard in two layouts this weekend.  I love using Chipboard but struggle to find it in my local stores... Am very surprised to have found two pieces in my small collection that both made their way into a layout on the same weekend. :P

Mini Album: USA 2012

For the last few trips I have taken to creating my own travel journal mini album.  This is important to me as the only time I keep a journal is when I travel.

This year I made all the pages based on a combinations of techniques, the page construction was inspired by the following project on You tube called Happy Haunting Mini Album.  Here is the link: Happy Hauntings Mini Album

Rather then take lots of picture I took a little video to show my album.  Please note the audio starts off absent of sound but suddenly cuts in. I will have to work on my video techniques ...

Supplies:

Kaszazz - DS Papers, Rub-ons, Stamps
Prima - Papers
Kaiser - Ephemera
Lace, Charms and adhoc jewellery supplies.

Next up is AJ's mini Album.  It will be much much much smaller...  He doesn't usaully journal as often but he does like to jot down some experiences.

Cheers

Card: Creative Card Crew Challenge - Tree: Surprise Box

Wow, it's time again for another challenge over at Creative Card Crew.   For this challenge we are sponsored by the amazing Simon Says Stamp.

Our challenge theme - Tree!!!

I have to say, I was a bit bewildered at the idea of 'tree', then I was inspired by a die that I have called Eves tree.  Well, it didn't get me thinking about Eve, but it did get me thinking about Alice.

Like so many people I  know, I love pattern paper.  I particularly love Graphic 45.  But also like many I struggle with the idea of using this awesome paper.  So, I did.  I cut 2 12x12 sheets and I created my very own Halloween in Wonderland Surprise box (also known as exploding box).  With my centre piece being the tree.  Hiding in the tree is the Cheshire cat, because, well where else would he be?

Here is a peak at my tree, cat included:

Following are some close ups of the decorations on the outside.  I kept them pretty low key.  I wanted the inside to be where all the action is...

As usual Mr Holtz and the truly awesome Lindy's were on hand to help out... when thinking Halloween how does one goes past the 'On the fence' die by TH alterations?  And Lindy's sprays were as invaluable as ever in providing colour.  Must mention there's some Distress stain in here too.

The next picture shows a little of the detail once the box is opened.

And here  I have included a quick picture of my tree in progress (I used 9 die cut trees to make the finished tree) along with a picture of the finished project.

Finally,   following is a close up of the top of the Surprise box.

Lots of pictures in this post, I hope not to many. Thanks for visiting.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Bazzil
Papers:  Graphic 45 - Halloween in Wonderland
Flowers:  Kaiser craft, Wild Orchid Crafts

Tag: Cherish Friends

Patrice from  52 Card Pick-up  stopped by and left me a lovely comment on another tag I did and she mentioned linking it up to her current challenge.  It didn't feel right back linking, so thinking about her challenge and the new challenge this week at The Shabby Tea Room.  I went ahead and made this tag.

Supplies:

Kaszazz: Tag
Kaiser craft: Card embellies
Lace, cheese cloth and roses ribbon
Dies:  Memory box, Tim Holtz
Punchs:  Fiskers

Also used distress stickles, distress inks and you guessed it, some Lindys.  There's also a little bronze key ticked in there too.

Layout: the LOVE of a dog

My friend, my pal, my baby...My Ebony.

This layout was inspired by two challenge blogs:

once upon a sketch blog
scrap africa

Both blogs had great new sketches this week that helped to get the creative juices flowing.  On this page I was working on using layers.  Of course I had to be creative with the 6' paper to get all my layers looking right.

The Kaszazz designer paper I used as a base had words that referred to Ebony and Ivory, and a vision for a future where all live in harmony.  I thought this was perfect for my Ebony's page

The Prima Bling I cut in half to use on both sides at the bottom.  My journalling is hidden on a tag on the side...you can just see it poking out with it's little lace finish.  The journalling tells of how we love to spend time with the girls at the park and how for us it is 'Family' time.  And the two little flags were added last, I found them on the Prima packaging as I was cleaning up and thought, Wow, they are just what I need to finish this.  The wording on the top flag says 'memories with you' and the second one says ' cherished moments'

Supplies:

Kaszazz:  Tag, 12" Card Stock and 12"designer paper
Kaiser craft: 6" designer paper pad
Jolee's Boutique:  Lace
Prima: Bling, and the little flag embellies were cut out from the Prima packaging
Cricut and Gypsy: the words
Distress inks
Lindys Mists
Glossy Accents
Texture Paste

Tag: You & Me

This weekends blogs brought lots of great inspiration.  I found a challenge to create a tag over at Cardabilities, this is Sketch #58.

This was quick and fun, I think the finished tag will be useful on a future layout or card.

I am going to admit, I am a little bit addicted ( make that a lot) to Lindys Stamp Gang sprays and stains and anything else.  I just love what I can do with them.  Today I finished off a Lindy's spray mist background with some Distress inks ( Peacock feathers, vintage photo)  and I just loved the combo.

Supplies:
Kaszazz:  Cream Tag, Heart chipboard pop-out
Wild Orchid:  Flowers
Sizzix: Stampin Up sizzlit:  Little leaves
Jolee's Boutique:  French General Lace
Kaiser:  Rubons
Lindy's Stamp gang spray mists
Distress Inks

Layout: Warming Up

This layout was inspired by the current sketch challenge over at Creative Scrappers, this one is based on Sketch #214.

The layout is of my nephew James.  He and his dad popped in to show us their new Puppy, Choco.  James is often a bit overwhelmed by my labs, so it takes a little while for him to warm up to them.  In this photo is Amber my 8yr old and Choco.  Ebony must have wandered off, cos she and the pup played pretty much the whole time.

I had fun with this layout and other then turning the sketch sideways I kept pretty close to the original...

The hinge embellishment was inspired by embellishments purchased from Angelica's Little Scrap Shop.

Supplies:

Kaszazz Papers: Castaway collection
Punches:  MArtha Stewart and EK Success
Time Holts Alterations:  Tattered Banners, Hardware
Glossy Accents
Kaiser craft flowers
Lace
Butterfly: littlescrapshop
Sizzix letters

OTP: Kaiser Drawers

Here they are! All finished.  What you ask...It's my technique kit from the Swirlydoos kit club (Feb 2012).  Knowing that the next kit, with of course the project kit, was on the way and that I hadn't played with any of the previous ones I though it was time to play.

Was awesome fun decorating this project..so here's the journey:

I started with the kit.  Note don't fold the pre-scored chipboard the wrong way - they break.  Tip 2, dont do it a second time, cos then you just know your a ditz.  Moving along, I then decided that I wanted the inside of my drawers to look pretty.  So I lined each drawer with tissue paper.  This is easiest to do before you put them together.

After painting everything with my trusty Starburst spray, I lined the top, back and side with pretty paper. Same fort he drawers.  I didn't line the shelves.  They look lovely with the starburst spray.

Following are close up of the pretty decorations.

I had a great time playing with the flowers

 And adding charms

Playing with Ribbon

And here's look at the inside of the drawer...one I hadn't already put stuff in:  And the final decision, use it for craft odds and ends or have it in my Bedroom.  I just love how it came out!  Yay.

Supplies:
 Kaiser Craft:  Chipboard Kit, Roses
Chipboard Embellies: Keyholes and keys
Prima Papers:  The Printery Collection, Prima Script
Kaszazz Papers
Sizzix Die:  Flourish
Seam Binding
Tim Holtz Black Soot Crackle
Lindy's Stamp Gang:  Violaceous Violet Startburst spray
Random from personal stash: Charms & Lace

Layout: Rawr

Wow, its complete!  This layout was a challenge.  I started by creating my background.  This was done using napkins.  There are at least 4-5 napkins, all of the cheetahs were adhered using texture past to give the faces depth.

I recycled a doily and tag for this layout.  This was also the first time I really played with Lindy's Stamp Gang supplies.  And wow are they awesome!  My pictures just don't show the vibrant tones...  You can see a little of the blue undertone from Moonshadow Mist: Buccaneer Bay Blue in the tag shown below.

I have also shown in the above shot a before and after of the doily (which is mostly hidden in my layout).

Supplies used:

Tsukineko Inks
RW Lazer cuts
Chipboard alpha's
Tim Holtz  - Distress Stain: Bundled Sage
Tim Holtz - Alterations Die (Weathered clock)
EK Success Edge Punch
Kaiser Craft - Flower
Lindy's Stamp Gang:
  • Moonshadow Ink: Ethereal Emerald
  • Moonglow Embossing Powder: Midnight Bronze Obsidian
  • Moonshadow Mist: Buccaneer Bay Blue

Napkin / Serviette Technique - How To

Napkin Technique:

Artist Gel - Light Moulding
Kaiser Glue
Napkins (peel them back to the single printed layer)*
Card Stock

I water the Kaiser glue down to a very thin watery consistency, probably 1 part glue to 10 parts water.  Mix well.

Tear your napkins in to sections you like.  In my example (see my  Rawr Layout) I carefully tore around the cheetahs as I wanted to focus on them.  For the backgrounds I just tore random pieces from animal prints.

Place you torn napkin pieces loosely where you want them on your page.

I worked first on my Cheetahs, as I wanted them to be textured and have depth.  To achieve this I used a plastic knife and glumped the moulding paste under where I wanted the cheetahs.  I then lighted pressed the napkin into place and used my fingers to gently move the paste around to create highs and lows around the nose and eyes.

Be very careful because the wet napkin will rip.

Once I had the look I wanted I went to work on the next Cheetah.  When all three where in place it was time to do the background and seal the Cheetahs.

Stir your Kaiser glue mixture and then with a soft brush light glaze over the cheetahs.  Next select one of the background pieces, put in in the position you want and glaze over the napkin with the glue.  keep going with bits of napkin until you have the look you are after.

If you tear anywhere while gluing, go back to your napkin scraps and find a bit that matches the area of the tear and then just use the glaze to position the repair in place.

It really is fun.  And there are so many napkins out there.

*Note:  All the Napkin/serviette inserts end up in my napkin box and are used when I have visitors.  This is a habit I picked up from my friend Filoma.  Guests often laugh at the very faded image that remains.  No wastage!

Layout: Dream Spa

I really hated this photo. It just didn't work for me. But it is from my birthday 2010, and reflects part of what was an awesome day. And the Spa, it really was awesome. So I changed to photo to B & W and suddenly it didn't seem so bad. It was when  I added colour back to the flowers that I came to quite like the picture.

So with my 2011 goal of getting into the craft room more and with the aim to use embellishments, I came up with this LO.

The use of flowers were inspired by the creative crafters from Swirlydoos. The chipboard embellishment was inspired by Lucretia and her work at Wrapped in Paper (a local craft shop). Here's a close up of the decorations.

Supplies:
Chipboard lock - Kaiser Craft
Binding tape - Stamping Up
Small Swirls - Sizzix
Long swirl - Cricut
Flowers - Prima, Kaiser Craft
Clock - Tim Holtz Alterations die

Would love to know what other people opinion of this layout.  These are not papers I generally feel comfortable with and the use of flowers on my layouts is very new to me.
